Not sure I've got my head around how that works (and it clearly does). Does that arrangement give lower errors in the z axis (and higher errors in the x/y plane) than that achieved with a lateral displacement? Any advantages to that? Andy
Although as you saw in my talk the stereo images were rotated 90 degrees, it was evident from the orientation result that the X,Y plane accuracy was better than the Z accuracy in accordance with the theoretical formula for this. Interesting point though...
worth testing out with a rotate your monitor 90 degree driver? such as View Sonic. You would have to get use to the menus been on their side though:-) I will discuss with our developers if they can add a rotate image feature to allow this useful technique to be processed easier.
Tried this on a close range pair (as a trial) but still wondering whether I have misunderstood Nick.
Took one photo approx. 1.5m above the surface and the second 1m above the surface (just moving down vertically towards the surface and not laterally at all). All the pass points and scale bar were visible in both photos.
PI-3000 threw up errors and wouldn't calculate. With a bit of fiddling (mainly deleting points from both photos) I managed to get a calculation but the stereo tranformation didn't work correctly and gave me (different) parts of both images. Is there something I need to set to tell the program that my photos are other than right and left; was my vertical transition just to much, or maybe the program can't cope with this (unexpected) transition at such close range?
